January Horror And Comedy Starts On Friday The 13th


Winter or no winter Friday night is always the best. But if it coincides with Friday the 13th, supplemented by a full moon, superstitious minds should guide you towards something scary and horrible. Thus, why not look through a list of new January horror movies to double the effect? Or play the opposite - choose a comedy or a cozy family movie. Well, here we go:

HORROR

Director: Stacy Title Written by: Jonathan Penner Starring: Douglas Smith, Cressida Bonas, Lucien Laviscount, Doug Jones, with Carrie-Anne Moss, Faye Dunaway Plot Synopsis: When three college students move into an old house off campus, they unwittingly unleash a supernatural entity known as The Bye Bye Man, who comes to prey upon them once they discover his name. The friends must try to save each other, all the while keeping The Bye Bye Man's existence a secret to save others from the same deadly fate.

Valenzuela Starring: Robert Adamson, Jarrett Sleeper, Jon Gries, Conchata Ferrell, Alex Frnka Plot Synopsis: On a June night in 1912, eight people - a mother, father, their four children, and two guests - were murdered by an axe-wielding killer in the sleepy town of Villisca, Iowa, a case that remains unsolved to this day. 104 years later, Caleb (Robert Adamson) and Denny (Jarrett Sleeper), two friends who share an interest in ghost hunting, along with Jess (Alex Frnka), the new girl in school who's already got a reputation, sneak into the house where the infamous bloodbath occurred in hopes of recording paranormal activity. What the trio encounters is far more horrifying than anything they could have imagined. A century after the shocking crime that put Villisca on the map, a supernatural force is waiting to write the next chapter in the home's bloody history.

COMEDY

After realizing it was all because of a silly booking error, no one volunteers to vacate. So, they try to cohabitate peacefully, but shortly thereafter, madness ensues. From there, the male family members turn to a series of outlandish camp competitions to determine the one family who gets to stay. As the hysterical contests occur, the brassy, biting Charlie Jones (Charlie Sheen) begins to take the lead in learning what's really important in life.

Director: Taylor Hackford Written by: Art Linson, Jeffrey Ross, Richard LaGravenese, Lewis Friedman Starring: Robert De Niro, Leslie Mann, Danny DeVito, Patti LuPone, Edie Falco, Harvey Keitel, Billy Crystal Plot Synopsis: An aging comic icon, Jackie (Robert De Niro), has seen better days. Despite his efforts to reinvent himself and his comic genius, the audience only wants to know him as the former television character he once played. Already a strain on his younger brother (Danny DeVito) and his wife (Patti LuPone), Jackie is forced to serve out a sentence doing community service for accosting an audience member. While there, he meets Harmony (Leslie Mann), the daughter of a sleazy Florida real estate mogul (Harvey Keitel), and the two find inspiration in one another, resulting in surprising consequences.

Director: Chester Tam Written by: Chester Tam Starring: Josh Peck, Tony Revolori, Cleopatra Coleman, Kevin Corrigan, Stella Maeve, Andy Samberg, Chester Tam Plot Synopsis: Two friends who are extremely prone to antics and hijinks obtain tickets to a music festival by questionable means. Naturally, everything goes according to plan and they have a totally normal time that definitely doesn't involve drugs, sex, and Andy Samberg.

Director: Lasse Hallstrom Written by: Cathryn Michon, W. Bruce Cameron Starring: Josh Gad, Dennis Quaid, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, John Ortiz, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, Peggy Lipton, Pooch Hall Plot Synopsis: Based on the beloved bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, A Dog's Purpose, from director Lasse Hallstrom (The Cider House Rules, Dear John, The 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. A family film told from a dog's perspective.

Director: Lawrence Sher Written by: Justin Malen Starring: Owen Wilson, Ed Helms, Glenn Close, J.K. Simmons, Terry Bradshaw, Katt Williams, Kate Aselton, Ving Rhames Plot Synopsis: The story centers on fraternal twin brothers who find out that their mothers been lying to them for years about their allegedly deceased father and set out to find their real dad.

ANIMATION

Director: Henry Yu Written by: Abdul Williams Plot Synopsis: Cody Maverick, hungry for a new challenge, convinces an infamous big wave riding crew known as The Hang 5 - voiced by WWE Superstars John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, WWE Diva Paige and Mr. McMahon - to let him join them on their journey to a mysterious surf spot known as The Trenches, where legend has it, they'll find the biggest waves in the world. Cody soon discovers that the life he left behind might be more heroic than what any death-defying wave has to offer.
