Horrible September Haunting Cinema Theatres

Weekends are always met with a whole rainbow of emotions. Someone's ready for a quality family time, the other can't wait to plunge into an ocean of easy mood and laughter. The third might be thinking of something ethereal to explore whilst the fourth waits for these two never-ending days with awe due to one reason or another. It's actually like the cinema. Comedy or horror, animation or science fiction - each genre has its own audience. And this September is extremely favourable for terror and horror fans, as filmmakers feature even eleven new horror movies. What a horrible month!

HORROR

Plot Synopsis: Set in the 1980s, an estranged family hires a cult deprogrammer to take back their teenage son from a murderous cult, but find themselves under siege when the cultists surround their cabin, demanding the boy back.

Plot Synopsis: In this horror-comedy, Gary (Adam Scott) marries Samantha (Evangeline Lilly), the woman of his dreams - only to discover her six-year-old son (Owen Atlas) may be the Antichrist.

Plot Synopsis: Three American tourists (Logan Huffman, Natalia Warner, and Brandon Sklenar) follow a mysterious map deep into the jungles of Japan searching for an ancient temple. When spirits entrap them, their adventure quickly becomes a horrific nightmare.

Plot Synopsis: Two estranged sisters (Francesca Eastwood and Taryn Manning) are forced to rob a bank in order to save their brother (Scott Haze). But this is no ordinary bank.

Plot Synopsis: In a small town in Maine, seven children known as The Losers Club come face to face with life problems, bullies and a monster that takes the shape of a clown called Pennywise (played by Bill Skarsgard).

Plot Synopsis: London, 1880. In the dangerous Limehouse district, a series of murders have shaken the community. So monstrous and ruthless are these crimes the press claim they're the work of The Golem – a creature from folklore, an almost mythical predecessor of Jack the Ripper. The Golem strikes again. With no genuine leads, the police put the vastly experienced Detective Inspector Kildare (Bill Nighy) on the case, a scapegoat for when the next victim surfaces. The Limehouse Golem is a Gothic murder mystery set in the darkest alleys of Victorian London.

Plot Synopsis: A riveting psychological thriller about paranoia, loyalty, and ambition that tests the boundaries of trust as nine friends sneak into an abandoned prison to film a ghost hunting video. When their friend, Hank (Luke Persiani), disappears, everyone is pointing fingers and placing blame until they realize they may not be alone.

Plot Synopsis: The film on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.

Plot Synopsis: Aliens, burnouts and clueless campers collide in this bloody and bonkers slasher freak-out. Deep in the woods of Northern California lies the off-the-grid town of Willits, a haven for marijuana growers, meth addicts, and conspiracy theorists. When a gaggle of vacationing teens unknowingly set up their campsite on the property of Willits' most disturbed resident - a psychotic, drug-addled pot farmer convinced extraterrestrials are out to get him - they're in for one hell of a bad time. The feature debut from director Trevor Ryan is a no-holds-barred pileup of carnage, twisted comedy, and pure crazy.

Plot Synopsis: Set between the first and second film, Sgt Davis Tubbs assembles a task force to destroy the Creeper once and for all while growing closer than ever before to learning the secrets of its dark origins, as the monster terrorizes a local farming community.

Plot Synopsis: Five medical students, hoping to gain insight into the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment. By stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience. As the investigation becomes more and more perilous, they are forced to confront the sins of their pasts, as well as contend with the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.

COMEDY

Plot Synopsis: An ensemble comedy following three couples stuck in the web of a jaded filmmaker looking to prove that marriage should be a seven-year contract with an option to renew.

Plot Synopsis: The film stars Reese Witherspoon as Alice Kinney in a modern romantic comedy. Recently separated from her husband, (Michael Sheen), Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice's unlikely new family and new romance comes to a crashing halt when her ex-husband shows up, suitcase in hand.

Plot Synopsis: A trip to Boston with his college-bound son triggers a crisis of confidence for Brad Sloan as he reassesses his own life choices in a bittersweet comedy from writer and director Mike White. Brad has a satisfying career and a comfortable life in suburban Sacramento where he lives with his sweet-natured wife, Melanie (Jenna Fischer), and their musical prodigy son, Troy (Austin Abrams), but it's not quite what he imagined during his college glory days. Showing Troy around Boston, where Brad went to university, he can't help comparing his life with those of his four best college friends: a Hollywood bigshot (White), a hedge-fund founder (Luke Wilson), a tech entrepreneur (Jemaine Clement), and a political pundit and bestselling author (Michael Sheen). As he imagines their wealthy, glamorous lives, he wonders if cozy middle-class domesticity is the best he will ever achieve. But when circumstances force him to reconnect with his former friends, Brad begins to question whether he has really failed or if, in some essential ways, their lives are more flawed than they appear.

Plot Synopsis: A hopeless romantic (Domhnall Gleeson), who thinks he's found true love with an older woman (Christina Applegate), learns that she's married and that the fling is merely an instrument of revenge against her neglectful husband (Thomas Haden Church). He threatens to blackmail her by telling her husband, but his plan backfires when the husband decides the best way to get back at his wife is to move in and adopt the romantic's slacker lifestyle.

SCIENCE FICTION

Plot Synopsis: In an astounding scientific breakthrough that could shake the world, Oxford PhD student Ana (Yaiza Figueroa) succeeds in creating the world's first artificial wormhole. Eager to explore her discovery further, Ana steps forward to be the first human test subject. The after-effects are severe and fast-hitting. Faced with bizarre memory lapses, a sudden aversion to food and drink, and the recurring appearance of a malevolent masked figure, Ana falls into a dark state of paranoia, fear and confusion. Unable to trust even those closest to her, and aware of her inability to form any new memories, Ana's need for answers grows increasingly desperate: what has happened to her memories, and who – or what – is behind the rising horror in her life.

ANIMATION

Plot Synopsis: A family must use a magical box of Animal Crackers to save a run-down circus from being taken over by their evil uncle Horatio P. Huntington.

Plot Synopsis: No other artist has attracted more legends than Vincent van Gogh. Variously labelled a martyr, a lustful satyr, a madman, a genius and a layabout, the real Vincent is at once revealed in his letters, and obscured by myth and time. Vincent himself said in his last letter: ‘We cannot speak other than by our paintings'. We take him at his word and let the paintings tell the real story of Vincent van Gogh.

Plot Synopsis: Six young ninjas tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they're gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they're ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.
