Oscar Nominees 2019 Announced

The 91st Academy Awards reached the final straight after today's announcement of all nominees. It will take only a month to the Oscar Award ceremony on February 24 to find out the winners.

The broadcast of the nominees revealed two movies - the leaders of Oscar nominations: The Favourite by the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos well-known for his The Killing of A Sacred Dear, The Lobster and Dogtooth and Roma by the Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón whose Gravity brought him 7 Academy Awards in 2013. They both received ten nominations each including Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Actress, Best Actress in A Supporting Role and others. What's left is to wait and see, which of those two will draw the lucky number.

In addition to the above mentioned nominees, the following six movies were also nominated in the Best Picture category:

  • Black Panther

  • BlacKkKlansman

  • Bohemian Rhapsody

  • Green Book

  • A Star Is Born

  • Vice

Meanwhile with Bradley Cooper eliminated from the competition for the Best Directing, Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite) and Alfonso Cuarón (Roma) will compete with:

  • Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman)

  • Paweł Pawlikowski (Cold War)

  • Adam McKay (Vice)

Though Bradley Cooper didn't make it to the list of Best Directing for A Star is Born, he definitely is one of the nominees in the category of the Best Actor In A Leading Role together with:

  • Christian Bale (Vice)

  • Willem Dafoe (At Eternity's Gate)

  • Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)

  • Viggo Mortensen (Green Book)

The favourite in the Best Actress In A Leading Role probably will remain Olivia Colman from The Favourite who has already won The Golden Globe but you shouldn't underestimate her close rivals:

  • Yalitza Aparicio (Roma)

  • Glenn Close (The Wife)

  • Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born)

  • Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me)

The category of the Best Foreign Film is almost the exact copy of the Golden Globe nominees, except Academy Awards preferred Cold War by the Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski to Lukas Dhont's Girl:

  • Capernaum (Lebanon)

  • Cold War (Poland)

  • Never Look Away (Germany)

  • Roma (Mexico)

  • Shoplifters (Japan)
