The Favourite And Roma Triumph At BAFTA Awards 2019
Last night the Brits honored the grands of film industry during the annual BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards ceremony. It turned into a big fiesta for Yorgos Lanthimos' The Favourite, though Alfonso Cuarón's Roma snatched all cherries from the top.
With 12 nominations The Favourite was the award leader and maintained its position by winning 7. Olivia Colman beat her closest rival Glenn Close (The Wife) in the Leading Actress nomination while Rachel Weisz won her first Supporting Actress award. The Favourite was also named as the Outstanding British Film and won awards for Original Screenplay, Costume Design, Makeup & Hair and Production Design.
However, the most significant awards went to Roma. In fact, this black and white film in Spanish language beats the competition wherever it is nominated. BAFTA wasn't an exception and honored Alfonso Cuarón and his Roma with Best Picture, Best Picture in Foreign Language and Best Director awards.
Rami Malek also continues to gather awards as the Best Leading Actor for his role of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody as well as Mahershala Ali as the Best Supporting Actor in Green Book. Perhaps it would turn out a sensation, if this duo didn't win the Oscars as well.
