The waiting is done, and 82nd edition of Venice Internation Film Festival has hit the red carpet yesterday. Till September 6 Venice will turn into cinema fiesta for professionals and film lovers featuring new and old filmmaking pieces in the sections of Venezia 82, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Venezia Spotlight, Biennale College Cinema, Venice Classics, and Venice Immersive.
International Competition, or Venezia 82, will feature 20 new entries, including Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein, Jim Jarmusch's Father Mother Sister Brother, Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia, François Ozon's The Stranger, Paolo Sorrentino's La Grazia and others.
Yesterday it was Paolo Sorrentino's La Grazia that opened the festival. During the same opening night the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival has been awarded to the great German director Werner Herzog (Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo, Nosferatu the Vampyre).
This year American director Alexander Payne (The Holdovers, Sideways, Nebraska, The Descendants) is appointed the president of the International Jury of the Competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, which will assign the Golden Lion for Best Film, as well as other official awards.
