The 78th edition of the Festival de Cannes opens today. For this occasion the Grand Auditorium Louis Lumière of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès where the Official Selection films will be screened, becomes Europe’s largest theater equipped with Dolby Atmos® sound technology.
In addition, the Croisette’s Plage Macé, opposite the Majestic hotel, will be transformed into an open-air cinema every night at 9.30 pm showcasing films from Hong Kong action to Italian intimism, from Japanese animation to Hollywood classics.
As usual, films in the international competition will get the most of the spotlight competing for the Palme d'or. This year the Jury with a famous French actress Juliet Binoche as a President will have a task to select the best one out of 22 entries by famous or debut directors from around the globe.
Tonight the Festival will be opened by the film out of the competition directed by Amélie Bonnin - Partir Un Jour (Leave One Day).
The eyes of the Festival crowd will also focus on other sections such as Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition, Cannes Premiere, Special Screenings, Short Films, La CINEF, and Cannes Classics.
On May 24 all winners will be announced and all of you are welcome to discover them online. Just to remind you, last year the Palme d'or went to Anora by Sean Baker, the film that also won the Oscar as the Best Feature Film.
