Search For The Golden Lion Of Venice Starts Tomorrow


The jubilee 80th edition of the Venice International Film Festival starts tomorrow and will present an elegant and radiant cinema fiesta throughout September 9 when the main prize of Golden Lion will be handed to the best picture of the Festival.


The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. As usual, the line-up of the festival includes the following sections: Venezia 80, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Orizzonti Extra, Biennale College Cinema, and Venice Classics.


The main focus falls on the international - Venezia 80 - competition, which will include 23 films featuring such world known directors as Luc Besson, Sofia Coppola, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Yorgos Lanthimos, Agnieszka Holland and others. See all films in competition here.


The Jury of Venezia 80, chaired by the American director Damien Chazelle whose works include La La Land, Whiplash, First Man and Babylon, will award the following official prizes to the feature films in Competition: Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion - Grand Jury Prize, Silver Lion for Best Director, Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, Special Jury Prize, Award for Best Screenplay, and “Marcello Mastroianni” Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress.
